From my earliest years, I felt the power of the male gaze, internalized the judgment of family about my face and body, drank in the everpresent advertising which graded female value according to our level of attractiveness to men. We breathe in the societal pressure to be forever young and thin and pretty and wonder what it would be like to be free.
